Caring for your coolant system requires knowledge of the entire system and what each part requires. While the system includes the radiator, water pump, and thermostat, there are a few signs to watch out for that can indicate an issue with a specific part. If your radiator needs service, it could indicate an issue with the coolant level. Regular coolant flushes can maintain your radiator's lifespan. You should also pay attention to steam billowing from underneath the hood, indicating that your vehicle is overheating. Your temperature gauge can also let you know when the radiator has issues.

Your water pump keeps the engine cool by pumping water and coolant through the coolant system. The water pump works with your radiator and temperature gauge to ensure a perfectly working system. If your water pump is failing, you might hear loud grinding noises that can signal a bad bearing or bad seal. If you find water leaking under the engine, that can also mean you have a bad water pump.

If there's an issue with your thermostat, you might have issues determining your engine's temperature. The thermostat is important to detect when the engine is too high or too low, triggering a code or the check engine light.

When Should You Get Coolant System Repair?
